Society Information
The mission of the Society is to promote and advance the study, control, prevention and treatment of tropical diseases, to facilitate discussion, exchange of information and promotion of the health of those affected by tropical diseases.
The Society was founded in 1907 with Sir Patrick Manson (1844-1922) as the first President and now has two thousand Fellows worldwide. The Society organises an annual programme of meetings in the United Kingdom and sessions at national and international meetings of other related societies and groups. Fellows receive the Society's journal the Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene monthly. The journal contains papers based on presentations at the Society's meetings, leading articles, reviews and original papers. The Society sponsors three fellowships and awards five medals of which the Manson Medal is the Society's premier. Two undergraduate prizes are awarded annually.
