Abstract

1.1) A phenothiazine derivative, acetylpromazine, has been used in eight non-neonatal and 25 neonatal cases of severe tetanus, either alone or in combination with phenobarbitone sodium.

2.2) It has been shown to be effective in reducing muscular rigidity and controlling reflex spasms, and experimental evidence of greater potency than chlorpromazine has been confirmed.

3.3) The limitations of this type of therapy in very severe cases with respiratory failure are emphasized.
